New kids on the block - how to engage with politicians

Details

The last few months have been the culmination of a period of extraordinary change in the political landscape in the UK. Who would have thought that the party that suffered a historic defeat in December 2019 with only 202 MPs would sweep to power in July 2024 with 412 seats?

This means that there are new members of parliament in place, new ministers and new ways of working.

What does this mean for engagement in your causes? How best to contact all these new people and get them enthused in your work

Lucy, as Chief of Staff to Richard Parker, the new Mayor of the West Midlands, elected in May 2024 knows what it’s like to move from campaigning to governing and also what it’s like to receive thousands of invites and requests for meetings. She’s got thoughts and she’s happy to share!

Key learnings from this session:

  • Planning political engagement
  • Approaches and tactics when you want to engage politicians in your cause
  • Are politicians the right people anyway?
